SINU’s School of Nursing to upgrade its staff

THE SOLOMON Islands National University School of Nursing and Allied Health Science is looking at upgrading its staff with honorable qualification.

In an interview with this paper, Dean of School of Nursing and Allied Health Science, Verzilyn Isom said her office is undergoing transformation in an effort to equip the Nursing School with professional staff.

“What I’m doing now is to make sure my staff obtain masters’ level and PhD level education as required by the University.

“This is a plan in progress and I’m happy to tell you that some of my staff have obtained the expected qualification,” she explained.

Ms Isom said 85 percent of staff at the School of Nursing and Allied Health Science have already obtained their masters’ level.

She said her department is serious about the staff upgrading programme with expectations to ensure staff obtain PhD level qualification.

When ask about how the nursing school develops its programme, Ms Isom said new programmes are determined by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

“We respond to what the Ministry of Health and Medical Service really needs inorder to develop suitable programmes.

“New programmes can be developed if the ministry sees a need,” she explained.

Ms Isom said the School of Nursing and Allied Health Science is a life line to making sure the ministry fully executes its plans and objectives.

In the meantime, she said School of Nursing and Allied Health Science is reviewing its programmes.

She said most of the programmes have been reviewed and now programmes on offer are current and updated.
