Kia Tourism operators undergo training

TOURISM OPERATORS in Kia, Isabel Province, have successfully undergone training on how to start small tourism businesses, quality customer service and hospitality services.

A total of 35 participants turned up for the training, which was carried out by the Ministry of Culture & Tourism.

Speaking during the training programme, Paramount Chief of Isabel Province Bishop James Mason said the training is an eye-opener for the participants.

He said tourism operators at the western end of Santa Isabel Province with the support of its existing Tourism Association known as West Isa Eco-tourism Association (WIETA) are currently rallying to coordinate efforts to boost tourist numbers.

Bishop Mason highlighted that the area has huge potential to offer as tourist attraction and activities however, means of transport has been a huge setback.

“We would like to establish an airstrip in Kia so our proximity is closer to our products,” he added.

Bishop Mason calls on Landowners, chiefs, Provincial Assembly Members and Member of Parliament as well as the government to work together and help tourism with needed infrastructure development.

He said proper infrastructure development is the only way forward to promote and increase visitor numbers to resorts and home-stays in Kia region.

Bishop Mason acknowledged the Ministry of Culture and Tourism for facilitating the important training programme.

In his remarks the owner of Isa Isao Eco-Lodge, Ms Melanie Rotu, said the training was a first of its kind to be held in Kia.

She said the training gave the opportunity for tourism operators in Babahaero, Barora Fa, Arnavons, Kia and surrounding communities to know about their job better.

Ms Rotu stressed that the training will left the standard of quality services needed to make sure visiting guests receive the best quality services.

She urges all participants to work together to grow the industry together.

The training was conducted at Isa Isao Eco lodge, a newly tourism establishment at Barora Fa Island, which was also funded by the Ministry of Culture & Tourism.

In the meantime, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is looking forward for its next training to other Provinces soon.
