Original landowners furious over payment of Lomlom Airport

DEAR EDITOR,

Responding to the above topic published in your paper (p6) of yesterday’s issue.

On the outset, let me put the record right in that the payment which the report referred to does not in any way affect the original landowners of Lomlom airport.

In fact, the payment was made directly to the concerned landowner (Z Salopuka) after his claim of ownership was verified by the lead ministry before the payment was made.

However, let’s not forget that another person also submitted his claim of ownership in relation to the same land but failed to provide legitimate documents to support his claim over Ngaiwabu land for which the payment was being made.

Essentially, it is important to note that Government ministries only make payments after verifications of relevant legal documents are made and satisfy proper procedures before procurement processes are progressed.

Having said that, as Chairman of the Landowners Associastion, I could only conclude that Philip Pwaeluwa is the only disgusted person as his attempt to convince the ministry to claim the payment was only good for the bin.

His personal attack against the beneficiary to Ngaiwabu land is a matter for an appeal at the CLAC hearing (let alone the expiry of the appeal period).

The fact that the matter was never appealed implies either he did not know what to do or he agrees with the chief decision.

In conclusion, let me reiterate that Ngaiwabu Land is not part of nor connected to the site in which Lomlom Airport was constructed.

Also for the record, the only frustrated person over the payment referred to by Philip was himself and not the landowners of Lomlom Airport.
