THE SOLOMON Islands Maritime Safety Administration (SIMSA) has completed installing beacons and light buoys in Western Province.
SIMSA carried out the Nav Aid and Beaconing Project under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development (MID).
Western Province Senior Maritime Officer, Wheatley Douglas said the work is to upgrade Solomon Islands waters’ safety towards world standard navigation systems to hit international requirement.
Mr Douglas told Island Sun in an interview yesterday that this Nav Aid beaconing project was also in support of the expected cruise ship visit because the priority is the navigation of this cruise ship which will arrive in Gizo on September 30.
He said the team of workers have left Western Province after completing the project which begins from the Marovo lagoon to Gizo Island.
He said they have moved on to Choiseul province for the same project.
Island Sun witnessed workers from a ship, distance outside Gizo Town working on the project over recent days.
