TOPAZ YOUTH Ministry of the Kukum Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) has reached out to inmates of the Tetere Correctional Institution over the weekend.
The programme is part of the Ministry’s Prison Ministry Evangelism activity to conduct sermon and Bible studies with the inmates.
Reaching out to Tetere over the weekend was a huge success and blessing for inmates, through the engagement on bible activities based on the key books of, Mathew 23:12 and Luke 19: 1-10.
The day brought full participation of inmates in lesson discussion, singing, one on one bible studies and inmates sharing their spiritual experiences.
The Youth Leader of Topaz Youth Ministry, Paul Sikwa’ae stressed that the programme undertaken at Tetere by Topaz youths was a blessing.
He said the fellowship is part of the Kukum SDA Church Youth Ministry activity to share and bring hope to inmates.
Mr Sikwa’ae adds that the main concept is to give inmates a hope in Jesus despite experiences encountered by directing them to participate spiritually, and support them through their state of recovery.
He said the response from the inmates is that everyone was blessed with the message through preaching and songs rendered by the young people’s Ministry.
Meanwhile, Sikwa’ae challenged youths in the church on such duty, saying that they should be in the frontline on the great commission to reach out with Jesus to others, which requires collaboration despite religion.
“It’s best to go out from our comfort zones as it’s time for young people to frontline such Ministry, someone out there needs help,” he said.
With Topaz Youth Ministry’s Evangelism yearly programme, Sikwa’ae stressed that their outreach mission is an ongoing activity and programmes are still there to visit such venue.
The coordinator of the Tetere inmates Ministry, Otorara Gore said they are very blessed by the programme of the Topaz Youth Ministry.
He commends the young people for doing such religious activity, which will build the morale of inmates for them to know that they are not forgotten although they are in prison.
“The more religious activities conducted here, the more it will build and improve their spiritual wellbeing and feeling as part of a community,” Mr Gore said.
He recalled that over the years, many inmate left Tetere accepting Jesus as their personal savior and continued with Evangelism activities and attending Theological schools.
“A lot of change maker activities were conducted, however the challenges now is the PA system and micro-phones which sometimes lower the involvement of inmates,” Mr Gore said.
