Villagers at Rade’aekwa benefit from organic farming

VILLAGERS AT Rade’aekwa community in the Langalanga lagoon in Malaita province have benefitted from an organic farming programme introduced by the Agriculture Department in Malaita province.

Agriculture senior field officer for central region Malaita province, Louis Wale, said this programme has introduced in Rade’aekwa and some other communities along the Langalanga lagoon to support them especially in their sustainable living and marketing.

These communities are located in the low land areas along the lagoon which are predominantly coral and muddy soil.

Wale said, “We have been working with the people of Rade’Aekwa as a start and we will organise trainings and try to introduce this type of farming to other interested communities.

“We have introducing this organic farming in Rade’Aekwa for the past five (5) years where they still maintain their farms and benefitted from through source of income through marketing and consumption.”
