British High Commissioner empowers youths

THE BRITISH High Commissioner to Solomon Islands has empowered the 247 graduates of phase nine Youth@Work internship programme to follow their dreams despite challenges they may face.

The Y@W internship programme has graduated 247 young people which brought together the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs and British High Commission.

The graduation marks phase-nine of the Y@W internship programme in Honiara.

The British High Commissioner, His Excellency Chris Trott, encouraged the youths saying that as a believer in empowerment of young people he urges them to follow their dreams.

“This graduation ceremony really does represent their first step to formal employment for the future of Solomon Islands,” HE Trott said.

HE Trott stress that although it is a challenge for societies today to create opportunities to enable young people follow their dreams, the internship has offered an opportunity for them.

“It gives empowerment to become active and respected members in the societies that they have grown up in that cannot be overstated,” Trott said.

Mr Trott reiterates that their choices to become active members in this programme determines their work commitment for a better future.
