VENDORS SELLING cooked food at the Central Market are being urged to renew their selling permits.

Senior Health Inspection officer under the Health Division of the Honiara City Council (HCC) Ms Christina Onahikeni made the call urging the vendors to immediately consider renewing their permits.

She said the council understands almost every cooked-food vendor at the Central Market is selling food with an expired permit.

Ms Onahikeni stated it is very serious for such practice to be adopted as it is against the food ordinances of the council.

She uttered that very soon the council is looking at taking tougher actions on this issue.

The selling permit recommended under the HCC Food Act is for six months, where cooked-food vendors are allowed to renew their permits every six months after expiry.

In the meantime, she also called on the lock-up shop owners at the Central Market especially those who provide culinary to be very careful on how they prepare cooked food at the Market.

Ms Onahikeni said that it has come into notice that sometimes the market experiences water shortage, thus during such situation it is not advisable for vendors to cook food within the lock-up shops at the market.

She stated that the council will soon get serious on those matters, as it is council’s aspirations to see only healthy products to be sold at the market.

Vendors at the market especially those who are responsible are asked to work together with them to help address those areas in the market.
