MEMBER OF Parliament for North Malaita Jimmy Lusibaea has resigned as the Minister of Infrastructure, shortly after Friday’s High Court ruling against the Ports Authority’s controversial CEO Colin Yow.
A copy of Lusibaea’s resignation was obtained by this paper citing his loss of trust towardS the DCC Government and his resignation from the portfolio as of 29th April 2016.
Lusibaea, who made his support for Yow known when he attempted to terminate the Solomon Islands Ports Authority (SIPA) Board Chair Billy Titiulu, said he no longer has trust in the DCC’s leadership and leadership style.
Lusibaea caused a stir within SIPA when he sacked Titiulu last month over the ongoing protest against Yow and his reforms.
His instructions were later declared invalid by the Attorney General as it required the consents and signatures of both the MID Minister and the Finance Minister to sack SIPA’s Chair of the Board.
Titiulu went on to lead the Board to Yow’s termination, which the Singaporean refused to accept standing on grounds that Titiulu was no longer Chairman – leading the row to the High Court.
The High Court on Friday ruled in favour to the Attorney General and the SIPA Board, prohibiting Yow and a number of workers from entering any SIPA premises.
The Prime Minister’s Office is yet to make a statement over the matter.
Island Sun was not able to make contact with Lusibaea before this paper went to print last night.
