THE POPULAR Youth@Work internship programme, now in its 10th intake, is looking for young people interested in undertaking internships across Honiara.

With nine successful phases completed since 2012, Youth@Work has provided valuable job experience to over 3000 unemployed youth in Honiara.

The programmes involve young people undertaking 90 hours of community service, before undergoing training to make them work ready- getting them bank accounts, setting them up with SINPF numbers and teaching them life skills.

They then undertake 15 weeks of internship in a host organisation in Honiara, giving them valuable work experience which they can use to find long-term employment.

Young people who are interested to join the Youth@Work internship programme must attend information sessions that will continue on Friday 29 April and Monday 1 May, starting 10 am to 11 am and another session from 1 pm to 3 pm in the afternoons.

The sessions will take place at Y@W head office along Tandai Highway.

During the information sessions the Y@W registrations & training team will brief interested young people on steps they would need to follow and activities they will do in order to successfully complete the programme.

There will be issuing of registration forms during the information sessions.

Brown Eroi, from the Youth@Work Registrations & Training Team revealed “there was a positive turnout of young people to the previous information sessions held this week so we are planning to give two more days to hold other sessions for those that missed out.”

Youth@Work is facilitated by the Secretariat of the Pacific Community, in partnership and supported by funding from the Queens Young Leaders Programme (UK), the Australian Government Aid Programme, the Pacific Leadership Programme and Plan International. Implementation is done in partnership with the Solomon Islands Ministry of National Unity, Peace and Reconciliation, the Ministry of Commerce, Industries, Labour and Immigration, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs. Youth@Work is an initiative to tackle youth unemployment in Solomon Islands and to help youth of the Solomons find pathways to employment and entrepreneurship.
