Ward Member for South Savo, Central Islands Province, Hon Jim Planet, is being called on to compensate owners of properties his committee had reportedly damaged.

His committee were reported to have damaged properties when preparing the venue in which to celebrate the province’s second appointed day.

A concerned father Mr Codrington Kuavauasi alleged that Hon Planet and his men cut down coconut trees along with some other important fruit-trees.

Mr Kuavauasi explained that property owners are disappointed as no consultation was made before the clearing of the venue.

As a result, some people are complaining that their properties have been damaged.

“Most people of our community are not happy on approach taken to host the event at our community.

“We suggest that the event should be hosted at a secondary school close to our community.

“We see this arrangement as unplanned with no proper strategies put in place to counter any damages made during the preparation period,” Mr Kuavausi said.

He said he has been seeking compensation for his lost properties with Hon Planet and his committee, but was unsuccessful.

Mr Kuavausi added that Hon Planet has also been giving false promises to property owners regarding their compensation claims.

He calls on Hon Planet to do the right thing by compensating people for their lost properties.
