RTC teachers visit local Eco-tourism site

 MORE THAN forty rural Training Centre (RTC) teachers undergoing the Hospitality and Tourism training this week embarked on a look-and-learn field trip yesterday.

They went to the mountains of Belaha, Malango, Central Guadalcanal, to have a general overview on the concept of Eco-tourism.

Principal Tourism Officer for Ministry of Culture and Tourism, who is also the lead facilitator, Ms Rachael Sibisopere during the field trip explained that the location and facilities are fine examples for eco-tourism which is an ideal match for their practical.

Throughout the day a demonstration of new skills was practically shown by Ms Sibisopere on how to deal with customers and in-house preparations.

The owner of the Eco-tourism site, Mr Stephen Riniu encourages the women in the work of hospitality and tourism as it is one of the sectors which contributes to development in Solomon Islands.

However, the aim of the training trip is for the RTC teachers to know nature of tourism and hospitality sectors and to know the personal and interpersonal skills and requirements to work successfully in hospitality and tourism.

The aim further extend for the participants be able to carry out daily work duties efficiently and be an effective team member followed by identifying resources in the respective RTC that they can start teaching this unit and transfer skills and knowledge to students in RTC.

Meanwhile, the group is looking forward to another excursion today in which they will be touring similar locations in West Guadalcanal.
