TRANSPARENCY SOLOMON Islands once again commends the Royal Solomon Islands Police officers for charging the Honiara City Mayor, Alfrence Fatai on attempted bribery.
He was alleged to have offered bribe to the police officers when he was arrested over traffic offenses.
“Transparency Solomon Islands would like to continue to commend the Guadalcanal Police officers for refusing the bribery offer by the City Mayor, and laying charges against him on attempted bribery allegation,” says the Executive Officer of Transparency Solomon Islands, Ms Ruth Liloqula.
Last month, the Guadalcanal Royal Solomon Islands Police Force also reported their boss to the authorities, which resulted in his suspension, after he allegedly tried to share with them bribe-money he received from an Asian businessman.
“The Royal Solomon Islands Police Officers of Guadalcanal Province are doing a great job and this should send a clear signal to people with corrupt motives that our police are now stepping up their act against bribery and corruption,” says Ms Liloqula.
“Transparency Solomon Islands would like to see other police officers do the same. Transparency Solomon Islands urges public officers to report anyone offering them bribe and any official of the government asking for payment under the table to the police officers so that they can lay charges on them as well,” says the boss of the anti-corruption body, Ms Liloqula.
Ms Liloqula also added that bribe is not only a crime but is corruption and has been denying government its rightful revenues whilst compromising our laws and systems of compliance.
“Fighting corruption is everyone’s business, and I am happy to see Guadalcanal police officers are carrying out their duties against corruption and doing their part in this fight,” says Ms Ruth Liloqula.
“Transparency Solomon Islands once again salutes the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force on Guadalcanal for another job well done.”
