A SPECIAL gathering to mark the Isabel Second Appointed was held at Kalenga Community High School on 3 June (last Friday).
The gathering brought together students from Koleta Primary school, San Jorge Primary School, Bishop Epalle Primary school (Midoru extension), Lepi Primary school and both Primary and Secondary students of Kalenga School, including teachers from the schools.
Elders, Isabel Provincial Govt rep, Axiom KB Mining Co, and communities of Japuana Ward also took time out to be part of the event.
The celebrations kicked off with a Holy Eucharist led by District Priest for West Bugotu Fr Ben Taluvunagi at St Alban chapel Sepi Village followed by colourful parade and raising of flags.
Speaking during the event, Provincial Assembly Member for Japuana Ward, Hon Allen K Tavake emphasised that such important day should be celebrated in communities rather than focussing on main centres.
“I’m happy to see this year’s celebration of Isabel Second Appointed Day celebration takes place outside of provincial Capital Buala for the first time.
“It is better to host such event in rural communities to give people both young and old the opportunity to take part in activities,” he said.
Hon Tavake announced that the event will be held annually, adding, venue to host the event will be identified before the next Isabel Day.
Chiefs, elders and leaders of Japuana Ward took the event as an opportunity to share their congratulatory messages to the provincial government.
