FLIGHTS TO Gwaunaru’u airport in Auki, Malaita are expected to resume on the 30 of this month.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Aviation and Communication, Moses Virivolomo said planned flights on the 9 of this month was further delayed due to airlines administrative issues.
Virivolomo told PAC that no one will believed that the Ministry had struck a deal with land owning groups to reopen the Gwaunaru’u airport.
He was responding to questions asked by Hon Mathew Wale as to when flights to Auki will resume.
The PS said the airline is the issue here.
He said clean-up work on the airport is already been done and people are eagerly waiting for the flights to resume.
When asked last week, Mr Virivolomo said requirements from regulatory side have already been completed.
Adding only the Airline needs time for operational requirements like marketing, selling tickets and setting up agent in Auki.
He said Solair promised that it will make its first flight to Auki by the end of the month.
He said Solair is planning to make three flights a week to Auki for a start and hope to increase the number later.
