THE SOLOMON Islands Visitors Bureau (SIVB) has appointed Los Angeles, California-based SA/SB Public Relations to manage its PR activity in North America.

Headed by principals Susan Bejeckian and Maris Somerville, the agency’s brief is to raise awareness of the Solomon Islands in the North American market with a focus on positioning the South Pacific nation’s appeal as a new and exciting travel destination and particularly its unique culture and huge array of soft adventure activities including world-class diving.

Announcing the appointment, the first time the Solomon Islands has had representation in North America, SIVB CEO, Josefa ‘Jo’ Tuamoto said the agency would play a key role in the national tourist office’s overall marketing activity as it moves to establish the destination’s profile in the region.

“Given its extensive South Pacific travel, tourism and hospitality PR expertise, SA/SB PR provides the perfect fit for us,” he said.

“Susan and Maris will play a key role in executing an aggressive combined SIVB PR/marketing program designed to reach North American consumers and just as importantly, in educating the North American travel industry as to the possibilities the Solomon Islands presents to its clients.

“One of the key components of this PR/marketing programme will be to draw attention to next year’s 75th anniversary of the Guadalcanal campaign and the correlating 100th anniversary of the birth of John F Kennedy who served in that campaign, both of which have particular significance to the US market.”

A specialised destination, travel, tourism and hospitality PR/marketing outfit, SA/SB PR’s South Pacific portfolio currently includes Cook Islands Tourism in North America and also several luxury resorts in the Fiji Islands.
