The training facilitated by the Sycamore Tree team personnel’s covered topics ranging from:

introduction to the Sycamore Tree sessions which included; to explore what the Bible says about crime, to understands what it means to take responsibility for an offence, to understand the meaning, power and importance of confession and repentance, to understand the meaning, power and importance of forgiveness, to understand restitution as a response to crime, towards reconciliation and to move toward healing and restoration/reconciliation by sharing letters prepared by victim and offender participants, worship and celebration – to reflect on and celebrate the new awareness that group members have about crime and healing, and to worship the One who made it possible.

At the worship and celebration session that marked the end of the training session, inmate DH speaking on behalf of the inmates registered how grateful his colleague inmates and himself were in being blessed with the opportunity to undertake the training which gave them the opportunity to understand the nature of crimes himself and his fellow inmates inflicted on their victims.

“We did not realise the degree of pain and agony our victims were subjected to as a result of our poor decisions. With heartfelt regret we wish to register our sincere apology to those who were affected either directly or indirectly by the poor decisions we made in life. It our sincere hope that by our Almighty Gods’ grace we will not repeat what we have done in the past but remain hopeful in becoming better citizens of our nation Solomon Islands.”

The director of programmes of CSSI registered their appreciation for the collaborative approach the division and STPSI employed in delivering the training for inmates at the Tetere Correction Centre.

The deputy Commissioner of CSSI Technical Mr Robert Tome when thanking the Sycamore Tree ministry for delivering the training acknowledges the consistency of the service provided by the STPSI in Rove Correctional Centre and pledges to support STPSI deliver similar training at the Auki Correctional Centre in Malaita and Gizo in Western Province.

Sycamore Tree Project Solomon Islands through special guest Pastor Nacanieli Seru thank the CSSI and in particular the Programmes division   and advisor David Shenman for the overwhelming support rendered to the STPSI to see the training programme completed successfully.

The worship and celebration ended with a feast prepared by the inmates and a tree planting where a dwarf coconut palm was planted as a symbol to remind future inmates that crime is a disease that it is our responsibility to work to prevent it at all costs from within all communities of Solomon Islands.
